Chicken

Chicken is often mistaken as a lean and healthy protein. Many people will argue this point, but will only get this far- because they aren't sure exactly what makes it this way. From the research that I've done, chicken is no different than any other meat out there. It still contains hormones, natural chemicals, diseases, & fat that aren't meant for human consumption. Not only that, but the way in which chickens are raised for food is horrific & inhumane.

*Live Fast Die Young- The Life of a Meat Chicken* is a short video investigation conducted by Compassion in World Farming. It takes a look at the lives of factory farmed chicken in the UK from the day they're born until the day they're euthanized. This video isn't easy to watch, but it gives a true insight into what these precious chickens have to go through for food.

If people do decide to eat chicken (or any other meat), the best way is to go through a free-range farmer. The only way that you will truly know if your meat/eggs/milk is free range, is if you know exactly where it's coming from.

The USDA and the FDA do not regulate any advertising that goes on the labeling of products

The only responsibility they have is to list the ingredients of the product- they can slap on "organic" "free-range" "all natural" all they want, even if these are completely false.

To ensure that you are getting real free-range & organic meat, it's best to go to a farmers market or an independently owned natural food store where the name & location of the farm is clearly labeled on the product. Even Whole Foods- which is now a national chain- can only say the country or state where their food comes from. It's best to get to know a farmer or the owners of these small markets in order to truly know where your meat is coming from.

All animals suffer when they're being euthanized. Even the most gentle & humane procedures are still painful and scary to animals. If everyone were to go vegetarian/vegan, or at least consume meat that is actually free-range & organic, we could put an end to horrible factory farming!!
